The Gap Theory

Well the Gap theory teaches all the billions of years comes BEFORE Adam.  There are some different versions, depending who you talk to and how much that person likes to compromise.

The basic teaching is that there is a million/billion year period between Genesis 1:1 and verse 2.

Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."    Then...

MILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF YEARS

Genesis 1:2 "And the earth was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep."

 During this period, all the dinosaurs existed, some claim that there was a pre-adamite race of humans without souls (they were evolving and this is somehow supposed to explain the fossil humans, Neanderthals) During this time, the fossils formed and all the layers of the earth formed, dinosaurs were killing each other etc. etc.  This is also the time that Lucifer fell from heaven and became Satan.  God then destroyed the earth and everything on it making it become "without form and void". 

Now the first problem is this... ALL through the Bible, when God judges man (many at one time) there is always a righteous man escaping the judgment.  We see this in the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Lot escaped with his family.  We also see this in the flood judgment... Noah and his family escaped... we see this in the future...the coming judgment of God by fire... God's children (those who accept Christ and repent from sin) will escape!

But in the Gap theory, we have no one escape.  Strange, doesn't quite match the rest of Scripture.  Small, but there is so much more wrong with the theory.

For instance, many, many Scripture is contradicted by this compromise like, Exodus 20:11, "For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is,..." The verse is very clear that everything in the heaven, earth and sea God created in six days... "...and all that in them is..."  All means...ALL.  All that is in heaven, all that is in the earth and all that is in the sea God created in 6 days!  So how could the dinosaurs, birds, fish, reptiles, plants...etc. exist before day one when it is clear that God made all these creatures on days 3-4-5 and 6?  Is this a second creation?  Are we living on a second earth? No... Revelation 21:1 is clear that we are living on the FIRST earth now. "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." Revelation 21:1 If the "gap theory" were true, that would mean that there was some secretive earth and life before us.

What about the most important doctrine of the Bible?  The whole reason we need Jesus?  Original sin.  This is what the Bible has to say about how it came to be, Romans 5:12, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"

According to this verse, how did death come into the world?  By SIN. And how did sin come? BY MAN.  So man sinned and brought death into the world.

If the gap theory is true, then there was death and suffering in the world before Adam.  This would mean that God introduced death into the world.  We know this because the fossils we find show signs of disease, suffering and obviously... death.  This would make God a liar since He said that Adam brought death into the world...a PERFECT world. God is not an ogre!  ANYTHING God creates is perfect, it is man that sinned and brought death into the world.

With the above, add this verse, Genesis 1:31,  "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day." On the sixth day of creation God looked at EVERYTHING he created and it was VERY good.  Now, if Lucifer already fell from heaven and was running around as Satan, how could everything be very good?  It couldn't be.  There would be evil in the world.  God created Lucifer... and God said that everything He created was VERY good on the sixth day!  Lucifer woulf had to have been good at that time, here is the proof.... 

  The bible says that Lucifer was in the Garden WHILE he was GOOD!!!! Read, Ezekiel 28:13-15 "Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, ... ... [14] Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so... ...[15] Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

The Garden wasn't made until day 6 Genesis 2:8 "¶ And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed."
What day was man created?? Day 6.  And God put the man He HAD formed (Had = past tense, man was already formed before God planted the Garden) So the garden had to have been made on day six! God rested the very next day! Ezekiel says that Lucifer was in "Eden the garden of God..." "till iniquity was found in thee."  Lucifer had to have fallen after day 6.

The Gap theory has a BIG problem now.  The Bible is fine read just the way it is written.  The ONLY reason the Gap theory was invented is because MAN decided to make a theory that explains life without God called evolution.  When some scientists jumped on this idea Christians panicked.  Was the earth billions of years old as the scientists said?  No, but the gap theory was invented by compromisers JUST IN CASE we were to find out the earth is billions of years old!  This is not giving God the glory!  This is being scared that man may be right and the Bible will look silly and false if the earth turns out to be billions of years old. Notice that most people who claim to believe in the gap theory will say, "Well we don't teach it dogmatically."  But they will allude to it now and again.  One can see that this theory is just used as a "safety" in case the rock of the earth is billions of years old and a way to explain the different looking humans called the Neanderthals! 

 Well, I will put my trust in the Bible and God rather than a fallible theory like evolution or the gap theory!  The great part is... the further science advances the more we see that the earth is young.  Praise the LORD!  Don't side with man Christian! It will only hurt you later. Give God the glory for His creation.
