Did God Make Millions/Billions of Years? Why cant we teach our kids that God used evolution?
Detailed critiques of the different theories are below. I will first make a summary. Well, this is NOT a light subject...especially among Christians. Here is the problem: The world teaches evolution and billions of years. The Bible, if picked up and read, teaches an earth only 6000-7000 years old. Huge difference! Not only that, an amazing fact is that evolution in every aspect, every detail, is opposite of creation.
I could go on, and on, and on, and on. Evolution, in no way, coincides with the Bible. We cannot teach that God made evolution or billions of years because it causes confusion. God is NOT the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33) Now, if YOU want to believe that God made evolution... you are entitled to believe whatever you want but I guarantee you have not taken the time to actually study it out. The problem is, if you want to teach that to a babe in Christ or a child. Look, if someone with NO preconceived idea of billions of years or 6000 years picks the Bible up and reads Genesis, they will come to the conclusion that the earth is 6000-7000 years old MAX. Now if you teach a child that the earth is billions of years old, and that child studies Genesis... they will realize a contradiction between millions of years/evolution and the Bible. Here is the other thing... Don't you think God deserves the Glory?! The 100% GLORY? What kind of God uses misfits, suffering and death to bring His work to what it is today? Have you not read, Deuteronomy 32:4? "He is the Rock, his work is perfect:" The God of the Bible didn't need random mutations and has no reason to use them... He did it right the first time. How could His work be considered perfect when we evolved with suffering and death up untill today where there is still suffering and death? Give God the glory! Even ATHIESTS will give God enough credit to admit that the God of the Bible could not have used evolution...
Many have said to me, "I don't mind my child thinking God used evolution, as long saved he gets saved, that is all that matters." Now, salvation is the most important thing in anyone's life. That is what we profess. Let me quickly illustrate a danger of teaching evolution with God then I will get to the proof. Picture a child in school. They are usually taught billions of years. With that, they are shown layers of rock, they get million year dates for that rock and even names for that rock. They also state that 'scientists' come up with these dates using special machines. (So now, it is proved in the child's head that the earth is billions of years old...they even saw the 'evidence') Now, the SAME child goes to church for 2 hours per week and hears about the 'story' of Noah, the 'story' of Jonah and the big fish, the 'story' of Paul and his missionary journeys, the 'story' of the Tower of Babel. Monday, the child goes back to school to learn about billions of years. Now at some point the child decides to get serious about the Bible, maybe they are older at the time and they read Genesis. The genealogy from Adam to Noah and Jesus back to Adam in Luke and realize it does not teach millions/billions of years. Not only that but there is no ROOM for these years. Not even with the Day Age or Gap theory... because it is easy to prove them wrong. Here is my point, when faced with a contradiction between society and the Bible, the child will most likely side with society. Remember, in school the child is shown fossils and different layers of the earth and told they are millions and billions of years old and that highly trained scientists came to these ages. In Church, we teach children about the 'story' of Noah, and the 'story' of Jonah... When it comes to the crunch, who will the child believe? Mom and Dad? Pastor? or teachers and scientists? Well, who do you believe? Why are you at this page? See to the child, the Bible is just another 'story' book filled with 'stories'. Story of Noah, story of Jonah...etc. Could we teach the children about layers and geology? Yes. No you do not need a Ph.D.. There are hundreds of Ph.D. scientists that have written easy to understand books on this stuff (see store) Easy to read, for the purpose of teaching our children the TRUTH. When telling your children about Noah and the flood, why call it the 'story of Noah'? Why not call it what it is... true history. And why not SHOW your children all the different layers of the earth and explain how the world wide flood caused the layers and HUGE fossil graveyards! Buy a fossil and surprise them during a history lesson. History is usually boring... make it fun!! You may say, "As long as my child receives Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, I don't care what they believe about origins." So you are saying that the child can CHOOSE not to believe Genesis as literal history as it is written? Then how on earth are you going to get them to believe what Jesus said about salvation! Jesus quoted Genesis! Not only that but II Timothy says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" Genesis 1:1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-...etc. are all Scripture!!! If you are telling your kids that Genesis (namely chapters 1-11) are mythological, then what other parts of the Bible are mythological? Hmmmm? No this gives way for people to believe what they want NOT what the Bible SAYS. No the Bible is the Final Authority on ALL matters of Faith and Practice AND everything else it TOUCHES upon.
